Panoramic Views, Drawings and Watercolours by Stefan Bleekrode
- Drawing is in Stefan Bleekrode’s blood. A fascination with the city and nature lies at the heart of his work. For the first time, his work will go on display at Museum De Wieger. Starting 12 December, the exhibition in 'De Ateliers' focuses on the journeys Bleekrode has undertaken, featuring drawings and watercolors of places in Italy, Holland, Eastern Europe, the United States, and England.

London, the Thames at Hammersmith
2026This is a panorama of a part of West London I like very much, the embankment of the Thames in Hammersmith. This drawing is not 100% accurate but the likeness is unmistakable. The centrepiece of this drawing is of course Hammersmith Bridge and in the foreground the lovely little cluster of traditional buildings with London's oldest pub, The Dove. Also less gracious structures can be seen such as the Broadway Centre and the Ark in Hammersmith. Farther back the skyline of the City and Docklands are just visible.
Venice, Giudecca Morning
2026In this drawing we're looking down the island of Giudecca with the rising sun shining on the water of the lagoon. In the distance rises the graceful campanile of San Giorgio Maggiore and a tiny bit of the main island of Venice can be seen on the left.
Town by the River IJssel in Holland
2025This is an imaginary city on the river IJssel in the east of the Netherlands. The architecture and townscape are based on cities by that river such as Kampen, Deventer and Zutphen.
St Petersburg, The Great Neva Panorama
2025This panoramic view of St Petersburg and the river Neva shows on the left the Peter and Paul Fortress, where the city was founded in 1703. In the middle foreground we're looking down on the park at the end of the Vasilyevsky Island with on either side the peculiar Rostral columns. The shadow of the exchange building falls across the Strelka, or Arrow as this park is called. On the right side of the drawing, across the river the famous Winter Palace and behind it Palace square can also be seen.
